I am a brown paper and string kind of girl when it comes to gift wrapping because, if you haven’t figured it out, I am a big sucker for anything that spells rustic chic. I love the natural and cozy feel of brown paper boxes and the simple elegance of a pretty twine to tie everything together. But once in a while, I like to mix things up and wanted to show you how to make a classic kraft paper box look dramatically different with 3 simple toppers.
1. Foliage & cinnamon sticks
This one is my favorite as not only it adds a touch of natural beauty but also carries a wonderful fragrance. Cinnamon is a wonderful gift topper on its own but when paired with delicate flowers or foliage, it adds an interesting textural element. You can really have fun here and just pick any flowers or leaves that may be in season or if you are lucky enough then directly from your garden.
2. Instagram photos
I love using Instagram photos to personalize gift boxes for family and friends. It’s such a cute and affordable way to remind a loved one of a wonderful memory that they might have forgotten or share an inside joke. I designed this box for my college roommate and chose pictures form our trip to Paris and Thailand where we had the best time a few years ago. Even before she had opened the gift, she was floored! An easy win.
3. Paper doilies
I find paper doilies to be a great way to add pattern and texture to an otherwise simple box. You can buy a couple of different size of doilies and then just fold them up to create different shapes and either wrap it around the box or stick it on for a fun pattern/shape. I used a jute rope and a pretty twine together to tie the whole thing together.
So, which one is your favorite? I would love to hear your thoughts or other fun ideas for more inspiration!
