I am yet to meet a single person who doesn’t love Nutella. I had my first taste in boarding school when one of my classmates got a jar back from her European vacation and we all got obsessed pretty quickly. Soon, every student was trying to smuggle in a jar, hidden among layers of sweaters and socks in their luggage which was strictly prohibited along with every other tuck imaginable. The first week back in school after every vacation was always bittersweet where we missed our parents but were excited to be hanging with friends again while catching up between mouthfuls of the delicious spread in the locker rooms in the middle of the night. The habit continued well into adulthood when every crisis (awful coworkers, hangovers, breakups) could be comforted with a spoonful of Nutella.
A few years back, I stopped eating junk food of any kind, including Nutella because of all the preservatives and fillers present in packaged goods. So instead of completely depriving myself, I decided to make it in my very own kitchen. Not only was it a easy but also tasted SO much better than the store bought kind! The chocolate spread was rich, nutty and delicious plus the salt really made the flavors sing. I wanted to kick myself for spending so much money over the years and vowed never to buy another jar again (it’s been six years!).
Give this a go and I promise, you will be as addicted as I am. It’s perfect on toast but even better, straight from the jar.
