I am a total morning person. The day I end up sleeping in, I wake up feeling lousy. For me, nothing beats waking up to a quiet house, putting on a pot of coffee while my three old beagle eats his breakfast noisily in the corner of the kitchen. It was after I got my first apartment in college that I started seeing the point of waking up an hour earlier to have the rest of the day run smoothly. I was no longer skipping breakfast, wearing mismatched outfits or chasing the shuttle disappearing down the street every morning. Needless to say, once you form a habit in your twenties (good or bad), it’s hard to break it later. Luckily for me, one good habit stuck along with a plethora of lousy ones: skipping meals, procrastination and making strange pouty faces every time I cross a mirror.
Now most of my mornings start with either a bowl of granola or a slice of toast slathered with butter and jam. I like the simplicity and ease of preparing something basic without skimping on taste. I love our apple date & chilli relish because its sweet, tangy and has a bit of heat to balance out the flavors. It’s so good on a slice of toast with salted butter that sometimes I go to bed dreaming about it! The great thing about this little relish is that it is really versatile- pair it with a cheese platter, slather it in a sandwich or even use it as a marinade for meats. Its great to treat yourself and pretty enough to gift it to someone!
